Amy Alessi
23 year-old Amy Alessi began her CrossFit journey in late 2011 and immediately showed great promise. With a background in athletics and cross-country running, Alessi already had the ticker, but just needed to build some strength. She easily adapted to the movements and certainly wasn’t afraid to put in the hard work.
Alessi competed in her first CrossFit Open in 2012, finishing a very respectable 87th. After a year of focused training she came back in 2013 better and stronger, finishing the Open in 22nd, and was awarded a coveted invitation to compete at Regionals.
It was at the 2013 Regionals that Alessi really made a name for herself, highlighted by a 2nd place finish in the Australia region (top 20 in the world) for the Burpee-Muscle up event.
However, arguably more important than results and what drew our attention to Alessi, was her heart. At no point throughout the Regional weekend or in any competition since, have we seen Alessi simply give in. She refuses to accept defeat or anything other than her absolute best effort.
Seeing an athlete continue to push, progress and make the decision to keep fighting is a powerful sight – this is what TheBrave represents and Alessi lives by this code.
Alessi trains at CrossFit Creature in Sydney.
